HEARTS OF MERCY, INC.
I’m originally from the Washington D.C. metro area and relocated to Central Florida in 2013 after accepting a job opportunity. At that time, I was in need of a lifestyle change—my son had just left for his first year of college in Pennsylvania, and it felt like the perfect moment to start a new chapter.
I was born on December 29, 1971, to Barbara C. (16) and Allen W. (17). Both of my parents struggled with drug addiction, and both passed away far too young—my mother from metastatic stomach cancer caused by breast cancer at age 43, and my father from a drug overdose at 38.
At 14, I went to live with my grandmother, Emma B., and while her home provided some stability, it was also where I endured some of my most challenging childhood experiences. Life has tested me in unimaginable ways—I have survived rape, molestation, single parenting, depression, a suicide attempt, gun violence, and physical, verbal, and mental abuse. Through it all, I’ve emerged resilient, grounded, and determined to make a positive impact. I consider myself a strong tower—a source of strength, understanding, and relatability for others facing life’s challenges.
In 2018, I founded Hearts of Mercy, Inc. (H.O.M.), an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This dream was the culmination of 18 years of divine prompting, a calling from God that I had once been too afraid and embarrassed to fully embrace. H.O.M. exists to advocate for causes close to my heart: breast cancer, mental health, homelessness, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and the US Military. Each ribbon in the H.O.M. logo represents a personal or observed challenge I have faced, and serves as a symbol of hope and perseverance.
Through H.O.M., I provide support, advocacy, and resources for those navigating life’s most difficult moments. My mission is to meet people where they are, listen, and offer practical and emotional support with compassion and integrity. Every event, initiative, and outreach program we undertake is rooted in the belief that no one should have to face life’s battles alone.
I’m proud of the work H.O.M. is doing and the lives we touch every day. My journey has been shaped by loss, trauma, and survival, but it has also instilled in me a relentless drive to uplift others and build a community of hope, mercy, and resilience.
Welcome to Hearts of Mercy and may God bless you on your journey.
